Introductions - New Web Designer: Sean Kleefeld

Sean began work at WSU on July 23. He makes the third person of the WSU Web Team and brings graphic design experience to the group.

Accessibility workshops - anyone using Dreamweaver's accessibility extension?

  • Training schedule for fall quarter for FrontPage and Accessibility workshops is on the CaTS Web site. FrontPage will run 10/10 and 10/17 and then again 11/26 and 12/3. Accessibility will be offered 11/7.
  • Donna Hamilton, Michelle Frisque and Jerry Hensley will present at Educause end of October on accessibility; send information on accessibility issues, especially info on any legal claims/lawsuits to Donna before then.

PDAs and accessibility - What do you know?

Two groups in medicine are working on creating Web sites that are specifically for PDAs. Here are problems/info encountered so far:
  • AdvantGo limits amount of data can download each day
  • Imagemaps don't work on PDAs
  • Compaq's wireless technology becoming more prominent
  • This technology is still limited by bandwidth
Any new info should be sent out on the Web Administrators list.

Check for these outdated URLs

/studsvcs should be /students
/univ_college should be used for university college and /ucie should be used for University Center for International Education.
**** Be sure to take down all old pages; they can still be accessed! ***

Nutter Center Display

Nutter Center Display with touch-screen monitors is up and running, although not completely finished - waiting to add WSU Web address. If you're at Nutter, stop by and take a look!

Human Resources FAQ

Human Resources FAQ project is nearly complete. Uses a MySQL database for frequently asked questions and answers - queried with PHP. Will send URL once it's up and running.

Student Handbook Update

Faculty Handbook out of date. Donna to contact faculty senate.

Undergrad catalog / majors list

The Web team is expanding the list of undergraduate majors (located at http://www.wright.edu/majors/) to include degree requirements (from 2001-2003 Undergrad catalog) and information on jobs/salaries.

Recent studies indicate prospective undergrad students are looking for info on majors, financial aid, scholarships, eventual jobs. Those in charge of college Web sites may want to link to the list of majors (which will also link to the grad list of "programs of study" as well as the Academic Departments and Programs listing) as well as to the Financial Aid Web site (http://www.wright.edu/financialaid/). Check the Academic Departments and Programs listing (http://www.wright.edu/academics/prog/) to see if your department's listing is correct. If you don't already have a generic e-mail address, you can request one from patricia.vendt@wright.edu -- the request must come from the department chair, and it must include the name of a full-time staff or faculty member to whom the mail from the generic address will be directed.

Course descriptions update

Dynamic listings are being worked on. Any current links will eventually need to be redirected. You will be notified once new system is ready to go.

Current list of virtual servers on the main Web server

Points of Pride

WSU "points of pride" are now circulating on the main Web page. If your department has a point of pride, send it to cindy.young@wright.edu, so the Communications & Marketing staff can follow up with the appropriate person for more detail.

Misc.

Default WSU e-mail address will move to Help Desk once HEAT program (customer support software) is fully operational.

Registered IP claims on wrightstate, wright-state, wrightstateraiders and wright-state-raiders (because we own the trademark for these word combinations) for .biz domains. Will register for these names and also same ones for .info. Donna Hamilton, Cindy Young, Terry Anderson, Patricia Vendt and Sally Clayton will develop a DNS strategy to determine whether further purchases are necessary.

Currently Web team is developing new sites for academic areas to help improve their accessibility and effectiveness. Departments are encouraged to use this free service. One advantage for academic departments who move is that we'll provide a shortened URL, e.g. www.wright.edu/music/ . Many sites, including CaTS, are moving to the main WSU server.

Web team is currently working with Music, Theatre, Center for Economic Education, Kettering Center and others.

WebCT going to SSL sometime between September 4 and 6.
