Wright State UniveristyVirtual Tour - Text DescriptionsRike Hall, Turning Points Sculpture and University Hall An overview of the southwest area of campus begins with University Hall, home to the WSU-Miami Valley College of Nursing and Health, offices of the president, provost and other university administration. This is the newest building at Wright State and sports a different architectural style. Although most of the building is constructed of red brick to match the other buildings on campus, the lower one-third is faced in white stone. This eye-catcher is further enhanced by tall vertical windows that appear to alternate in color from green to black. Closer observation will reveal a carefully thought-out design. By alternating the internal green draperies with the external black "false windows" and then overlaying a slender grid-work, the result is an interesting plaid-like pattern. To the left of University Hall is a gigantic steel sculpture called Turning Points by David Black. The open sculpture, consisting of curved and straight pieces, open circles and spring-like appendages, is brilliant red in color. It is mounted on six, ten-foot tall pedestals and looks like a whirligig ready to blast off into space. Continuing to the left is the Mathematical and Biological Sciences Building. A short walk opposite this building is Rike Hall, home of the Raj Soin College of Business. |
