Student Union Atrium
The Student Union is the community center of the university, providing services and conveniences to students, faculty, staff, and alumni. The large, bright atrium, illuminated by skylights, provides easy access to dining facilities, Arcade, Box Office, Recreation Office, and Credit Union. The focal point of this light-filled space is a 24-foot contemporary bronze sculpture titled Scenario by Ken Valimaki. This three-piece sculpture consists of two tall, "marbleized" bronze, vertical pieces with one concrete horizontal piece between them. The horizontal piece resembles a trough with a stepped interior that functions as an active waterfall. Long, rectangular wooden benches strategically placed along the outermost border of the gray tile floor also appear next to rectangular planters. These wooden benches are also seen wrapped around circular planters which sprout tall trees giving this indoor space an open-air aura. The second floor, with its open-wall construction houses the campus Bookstore, Disability Services, University Center for International Education, and an Art Gallery.
