Meet Our Students
Phillips Hena, Senior
Biomedical Engineering, Pre-Med
At Wright State you get to meet new people (both students and faculty) that only want to help you. Especially for my major, all the students are traveling around together taking the same classes. This provides you with many friends that you can always get help from and people that can ask for your help.
Preparing for the Future
I look at things very differently than pre-Wright State. When you get deep into your major you start to see how all the time you spent on those pre-reqs pays off. Things really start to come together. This also gets you thinking about future professions and, specifically, what you want to do.
A Little Advice
Do not underestimate any piece of work given to you to do. When I talked to my organic chemistry professor on how to prepare for his test he said, “You have to over-prepare, which is almost impossible.” This idea really put things into perspective for me. Regardless of how confident you feel with something there is always room for improvement.
A Few of My Favorite Things:
Favorite class- Anatomy & Physiology. I have an interest in this type of stuff. Especially the lab, since it is very hands on. The students get to see exactly what it looks like inside a real human body. Very cool.
My favorite on-campus event has to be the Texas Hold’Em Poker Tournament. I enjoy playing poker and I play at least once a week on the weekends. When I found out that Wright State had a group of students who set up an annual poker tournament to raise money as well as give out prizes, I was very excited. This tournament is organized very well and executed nicely.
The BGSA book drive taught me to be persistent. The books collected were being shipped to Liberia for less fortunate children’s education. This opportunity was sort of near and dear to me since my dad is from Liberia and helped set up the drive.
