Culture Connect is a new program sponsored by International Cultural Exchange (ICE) and the African Student Union (ASU) which will present an opportunity for fun and learning in the form of obtaining a language partner or an American/International buddy through off-campus group activities.
International students will be matched by their preference with American students from Wright State University in order to gain:
• New American friends
• A guide to the local area and customs
• An English language partner
American students can look forward to:
• New International friends
• A new perspective and understanding for foreign cultures
• A language partner (option)
• Learn about a culture before studying/travelling abroad
• The opportunity to help International students get acclimated to WSU and Dayton
The Culture Connect program will have recurring events which will grow in number of participants every semester, but seating is limited while the program expands. If you want to participate in this event, please sign up now at this link.
The matching process has been completed according to the preferences indicated during the sign-up process. Notifications have been sent to the matched groups, the few students who were unable to be matched, and the students who only wanted notifications about upcoming events. Please check your e-mails. If you haven't received an e-mail notification, please contact ucie4@wright.edu or ucie11@wright.edu with any concerns.
We encourage students to still use the sign-up form below if they only want updates about upcoming events: please check the box that states "I just want to be informed about future events" while filling out the sign-up form.
Click here for the online sign-up form. Students can also sign-up in person at the UCIE front desk in E190 Student Union.
The first Culture Connect event is a free-form event in which the actual event location will be chosen by the participants. Students will choose their own destination of an event, location, or restaurant off-campus to explore.
Sign-up sheets are available in the UCIE office at E190 Student Union (937-430-5250). Interested students must sign up by April 1 to be considered for the first event, and will be notified by April 2 as to whether they have been paired for the first Culture Connect event.
Students who are not paired will be eligible for all upcoming Culture Connect events over the summer and the following semesters (notifications will be sent to your e-mail address).
Since event location is up to each pairing/group of students, students are recommended to attend a pre-event meeting on Friday, April 5 between 3-4PM to meet their partners and discuss a choice of location for the Saturday outing. Food and fun will be provided at this Friday pre-meeting, as it will be a part of the University Center for International Education's (UCIE) Coffee Hour event which happens to be an end-of-the-semester potluck.
ICE has designated Saturday, April 6 as the first Culture Connect event date. You can meet with your group members at any place previously decided upon by your group.
ICE will also provide partial refunds after the end of each event. Please save all receipts during your official outings.
• April 5/6: Inaugural Event
