U.S. Exchange and Program Grants (Americans to go abroad)

 

bullet  Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program


Funds are available to U.S. faculty to be a scholar abroad in over 140 countries.  Round-trip travel is provided for scholars.  In addition, they receive a monthly stipend, basic medical insurance, a settling-in allowance, and a professional allowance for travel, books and other expenses.

bullet Fulbright International Education Administrators Program


U.S. international education administrators can apply for two- to three-week summer seminars in Germany, Japan, or Korea.  The seminars are designed to introduce participants to the society, culture and higher education systems of these countries through campus visits, meetings with foreign colleagues and government officials, attendance at cultural events and briefings on education.

bullet Fulbright New Century Scholars 


Each year 25-30 outstanding research scholars and professionals from the U.S. and abroad will be selected as NCS Fellows through an open competition.  Under the leadership of an appointed Distinguished Scholar Leader, NCS Fellows engage in multidisciplinary collaboration of the highest quality on a topic of global significance and universal concern. Topics change yearly.

bullet Fulbright Senior Specialists Program 


Fulbright Senior Specialist activities will be designed to provide U.S. faculty and professionals with opportunities to collaborate with professional counterparts overseas on curriculum and faculty development, institutional planning and a variety of other activities.  The program awards grants ranging from two to six weeks and makes use of serial grants.  Can be in any country worldwide which has U.S. Embassy or Fulbright Commission Office.

International Exchange and Program Grants (International scholars in U.S.)

 

bullet Visiting Fulbright Scholar Programs/Scholar-in-Residence Program 


Individual Fulbright grants are available for overseas scholars to conduct research or pursue combined lecturing and research in the U.S. under the Visiting Fulbright Scholar Program. Deadlines vary for each country.  Grants range from two months to an academic year.

bullet Occasional Lecturer Program


Funds are available for any of the 800 Visiting Fulbright Scholars to travel to campuses and local communities for short-term guest lectures.  The scholars’ round-trip travel costs are covered by the Fulbright Program. The institution issuing the invitation is asked to pay for local transportation, accommodations and meals, or offer an honorarium. There is no deadline.

Fulbright-Hays Seminars Abroad: U.S. Department of Education - International Education and Graduate Programs

 

bullet Fulbright-Hays Seminars Abroad Program


This program provides short-term study/travel seminars abroad for U.S. educators in the social sciences and humanities for the purpose of improving their understanding and knowledge of the people and culture of another country(ies).  There are approximately seven to ten seminars with fourteen to sixteen participants in each seminar annually. Seminars are four to six weeks in duration.  All seminars are held outside of Western Europe. The deadline will be in October 2004.

bullet Fulbright-Hays Group Projects Abroad Program


This program provides grants to support overseas projects in training, research, and curriculum development in modern foreign languages and area studies by teachers, students, and faculty engaged in a common endeavor.  Projects may include short-term seminars, curriculum development, group research or study, or advanced intensive language programs. 

Projects must focus on the humanities, social sciences, and languages, and must focus on one or more of the following areas: Africa, East Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia and the Pacific, the Western Hemisphere (Central and South America, Mexico, and the Caribbean), East Central Europe and Eurasia, and the Near East.  No deadline has yet been released.

bullet Fulbright-Hays Research Abroad Program

This program provides grants to institutions of higher education to fund faculty to maintain and improve their area studies and language skills by conducting research abroad for periods of 3 to 12 months.  Proposals focusing on Western Europe are not eligible.  The deadline will be in October 2004.
