About DCOWA
The Dayton Council on World Affairs (DCOWA) is a non-profit organization that has served the Dayton region for over 60 years.

Our mission is to "promote informed opinion and decision-making concerning international issues. We engage people on diverse world issues, points of view, and cultures to link individuals and organizations with common interests." After many years at the University of Dayton DCOWA is now at Wright State University. DCOWA is one of 85 councils in the United States which belong to the World Affairs Councils of America. Each of these councils has the same international interests and often share speakers and programming.

Our Board of Directors is comprised of college professors, executive directors, attorneys, financial advisors, retired business executives, foundation experts, and community leaders, all with distinguished records of serving the community and providing guidance and direction to the Council's goals and objectives.

Our programming includes prominent speakers and authors with international focus; international issues that affect our country and other nations; world trends in economics, security, human rights and violations, terrorism, peace initiatives; and personal perspectives on international travel and inter-personal experiences.

In the past few years, we have collaborated with several organizations and non-profit groups: THINK TV, the Jewish Federation, Temple Israel, Aviation Heritage Foundation, Dayton History, Dayton International Peace Museum, WYSO, the Levin Foundation, Bing Davis Ebonia Art Gallery, Dayton Literary Peace Prize, Secure America Speakers Tour, Foreign Policy Association, Friendship Force, People to People International, the Fourth Freedom Forum. We have sponsored internationally known speakers including Trita Parsi, Dr. Randa Slim, General Colin Powell, Dennis Ross, Mary Eisenhower, William Anderson, the Ambassador of the United Republic of Tanzania His Excellency Ombeni Sefue, and Vincenzo La Via, CFO of the World Bank.

One of our primary components is the youth program, the Junior Council on World Affairs. We currently have 12 chapters in the greater Dayton area, and we are working to expand the youth program into all high schools in the area.

The Junior Council on World Affairs programming includes distinguished and expert speakers on international issues; International Quiz Bowl, locally and nationally; Youth Forums on international topics; opportunities for state and national forums through the World Affairs Councils of America; and Great Decisions, annual international issues presented by the Foreign Policy Association with analytical reading and response opportunities.

Our next 60 years have great promise as we continue to serve the Dayton area with a global perspective and international topics and events.
