Katherine Mitakides
Katherine (Katie) Mitakides is a PhD candidate in the Political Science department of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Her primary fields of study are International Relations and Comparative Politics, with regional focuses in the Middle East and Europe. Her research interests include terrorism, Foreign Policy, and Security Studies. She is currently finishing her dissertation, "Pyramids, Wagon Wheels, and Franchises: How differently structured terror groups respond to specific counterterrorism policies." In 2006, her work, "Girls Interrupted: The Making of the Female Palestinian Suicide Bombers," was featured in the academic text Terror in the Holy Land (ed. Judy Kurianski). Katie has a BA from Hollins University in Roanoke, VA and an MA in International Relations & Comparative Politics from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. In addition to her work with DCOWA, Katie serves on the board of the Opera Guild of Dayton and most recently chaired their principal fundraiser, the 2010 Masterpiece Ball. She is a member of the NAACP and volunteers with the Literacy Project at Miami University. Katie is a native Daytonian and graduate of Alter High School.
