CECS: General Education Area VI -- College Component
Policy
At the January 13 UCAPC meeting, the Policy was
approved subject to review and approval by the General Education Implementation
Committee (GEIC). The chair reported that on February 20 the GEIC approved
the policy based on the understanding that it does not apply to non-CECS
majors or restrict non-CECS majors from enrolling in the EGR 190 course
upon earning not more than 45 credit hours.
COSM: Rescind Approval of EH 452
At the January 13 meeting the committee approved the COSM
proposal for EH 452. The COSM resubmitted the course for the February
10 meeting. At that time, additional information brought to the committee
indicated that the same course was submitted in past years and the COLA, Department
of Political Science filed an objection to the course . As a result, UCAPC
rescinded its approval of the course. It will be withdrawn from the Registrar's
Office. See below for additional information.
General Education Program: Approved substitution sequences
The committee brought to the attention of the GEIC
the changes in two substitution sequences (1) BIO 112, 114, 115 changed to
BIO 111, 112, 115 and (2) MUS 121 changed to MUS 121 and 122. GEIC also approved
the changes.

* Note: In the interim of the February 10 and 24 meetings and immediately
following the latter, committee members worked extensively with each of the
colleges to correct errors and encourage colleges to make improvements in
program changes, as well as inform individual colleges of impacts created
by program changes in other colleges. The process of program changes was
particularly difficult given the compressed time frame in which program changes
had to be accomplished following approval of the Fall 03 General Education
Program and the iterative inter-college impacts resulting from course
modifications. The committee is grateful to the colleges for their
quick turnaround necessary for the UCAPC reviews, subsequent recommendations
to the Faculty Senate, and incorporation into the new Undergraduate Catalog. However,
it should be that minor changes in the above approved programs may still
occur.
Next UCAPC Meeting
The next meeting is scheduled for March 17 (1:00 p.m.).
Colleges submitting curriculum and policy proposals for review by
the committee need to submit the original and 18 copies no later than
March 6.
