Practice narrowing or focusing a topic:
1. From the broad topic "ANIMALS" generate three possible subtopics.

2. From the three subtopics above, choose one and circle it. Search the Catalog at the Libraries web site at www.libraries.wright.edu to look up this subtopic. Type your topic in the Search Our Catalog box at the top of the screen; then search by keyword. Your results will be books, book chapters or videos. Choose a title that looks relevant to you and click on it to view its record. Write the title and author (or editor or producer, etc.) here.

3. Continue looking in the same record for the linked Subjects. These are frequently useful in helping you think of broader and narrower topics. Record a broader topic and a narrower topic below. (If the record that you chose first does not help you do this, go back to your results list and choose another title to practice finding broader and narrower topics.)


4. Return to Library web site’s main menu. Choose the Databases link on the right side of the screen; select Academic Search Complete. Search for the subtopic, the broader topic, or the narrower topic to find one relevant journal article. Provide the following information about the article:

 

Now return to the Databases link and scroll down to Newspaper Source. Find one newspaper article on your topic.

Return again to the Databases link and scroll down to LexisNexis Academic and Connect. As your search terms, type “Patriot Act” and “terrorism”. Pick one article and give its title and publication date.

Return to the Library web site. Search by title in the book catalog to find the author (who died in 1961) and call number of the book The Sun Also Rises.
