ILLUSTRATIVE MATERIAL---Look
through the chapter for charts, graphs, pictures, maps, etc. Read the captions.
SUMMARY---Read the
summary or last paragraph of the chapter.

VOCABULARY --- Look
through the chapter for unfamiliar words. They may be in italics, in bold
print, in the margins, or listed at the beginning or end of the chapter. Do

It might be helpful to find out their meanings before you start to read.

Turn back to the beginning of your
chapter. Read the first heading and look at the questions you made up. Now read
to the next heading and STOP. Look away from the book and RECITE OUT LOUD the
