Developmental Education 095 Elementary Algebra

Course Description:

Beginning Algebra including: numbers, order of operations, arithmetic laws, evaluation, signed variables, polynomials, factoring, linear equations, isolating variables, lines, systems of linear equations and word problems.

Prerequisites:

Undergraduate level DEV083 Grade of P or Undergraduate level DEV093 Grade of P or WSU math placement level 2.

Modes of Instruction:

Sections 1-14 use a Mastery Learning format in which instruction is individualized and there is no large-group lecture. Students progress by demonstrating mastery of each topic in sequential order. Class time is devoted to working with small-group tutors to master concepts and demonstrate proficiency.

All other sections use the traditional lecture format with addition of REQUIRED lab time after each lecture. During this time tutors assist the instructor in working individually with each student to answer student questions and evaluate student work.

Grading is Pass/Unsatisfactory. Credit does not apply toward graduation.
