2,019 Students responded to the Freshman Survey.

- MAP-Works is an online survey completed by first-year students.
- This survey is a valuable tool for us to improve our services and make sure students have the resources they need to have a successful first year of college.
- Students receive a report that shows how they match up with other first year students as well as those WSU students who have already gone through their first year of college.
The MAP-Works survey is distributed to all direct from high school first year students during the 3rd week of the fall quarter. A follow-up survey is distributed during the 7-8th week of fall quarter.
The survey takes about 20 to 25 minutes to complete.
The MAP-Works survey focuses on:
- Academic Success: Improve students' ability to succeed academically by realigning behavior with grade expectations and focusing on elements of academic success.
- Retention: Minimize percentage of capable students who drop out due to issues that could have been addressed by self awareness or timely intervention by professional staff.
- Student Development: Facilitate the establishment of relationships, address homesickness, identify residence hall living issues.
- Student Involvement: Connect students with campus resources to facilitate involvement with campus activities/programs and leadership opportunities.
- Prepare staff to meet with students and better identify and address issues (support vs. diagnosis)
- Empower staff to identify students and intervene in a timeframe that can impact student performance and retention (reach out)
- Educate students about transition issues and provide resources to obtain help (reach in)
- Enable students to connect with campus activities and leadership opportunities to get involved (reach in)
- Provide insight into issues common to all students to facilitate college/university-wide solutions
