Army
WSU is home to the Raider Battalion, where Army ROTC is the foundation for leadership that the U.S. Army is looking for.
Cadets are challenged physically and mentally. They are scholars, athletes, and leaders (SAL) who are highly motivated to service. They are also expected highly to be outstanding students academically and for the surrounding community.
Army ROTC program is administered in two parts: the Basic and Advanced Courses. Because students have completed Basic Training, they can enter the AROTC Advanced Course in their junior year. As a scholarship or non-scholarship cadet, they will earn their commission in only two years.
Another program is the Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP). The SMP allows students to attend Army ROTC and serve in the U.S. Army Reserve or National Guard simultaneously. It gives them an opportunity for additional training and experience. Cadets serve as Officer Trainees in the Reserve or National Guard while completing college. They can earn Reserve/Guard pay and benefits in addition to their Army ROTC allowances.
During the summer between junior and senior years, students also attend a 29-day Leadership Development and Assessment Course (LDAC) at Fort Lewis, WA.
