For the last twenty years, Tong Wang has enjoyed a successful international dance career as a principal dancer. After graduating from Beijing Dance Academy in 1986, he danced with companies such as Shanghai Ballet, Tulsa Ballet Theatre, Dayton Ballet, Colorado Ballet, and most recently, Ballet West. He has done almost every major role in the classical ballet repertoire and also danced a full range of contemporary ballets created by world-renowned choreographers such as George Balanchine, Antony Tudor, Frederick Ashton, John Cranko, Paul Taylor, Glen Tetley, Birgit Culberg, Choo-san Goh, William Forsythe, Ben Stevenson, and Hans Van Manen. He has completed B.F.A (2004) and M.F.A (2006) degrees with the University of Utah Ballet Department and has also worked as a guest faculty member with the Department since 2000. In addition, he has enjoyed a choreographic relationship with Ballet West, the University of Utah Ballet Department, Ballet West Conservatory, Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, and Gem City Ballet.
Tong is now a faculty member with Wright State University's Theatre Arts Department. He and his wife, Kristin Hakala, a former principal artist with Ballet West, are certified yoga teachers and they look forward to sharing their experiences with this new community.
