If you want to improve your flexibility and balance, try our Yoga sessions on a stand-up paddle board!  You must have taken a SUP lesson or have SUP experience before participating in the SUP Yoga sessions, we also recommend trying yoga on a mat before a board.

Stand Up Paddle boarding (or SUP) is the fastest growing water sport in the world for good reason – it’s incredibly fun and easy to learn.  We’ll provide you with a stand up paddleboard, paddle and life jacket. We will cover all the basics you need to get started: proper stance, paddling technique, turning and more.  Not only is SUP a great time, it’s also an excellent core workout!

How do you navigate from a boat that has no deck (canoe) or a small deck (kayak)? The answer is that we have to prepare ourselves beforehand and apply it to our on-the-water trip. This short workshop will introduce concepts of map and compass, reading and using charts, dead reckoning and navigating, as well as float planning. Dene Berman is an ACA Instructor Trainer who has field experience with Outward Bound, Wilderness Education Association, and Leave No Trace. He has used Navigation skills in places as disparate as Alaska, Baja California, The Everglades, and Northern Saskatchewan.

Work on improving your strokes and maneuvers in the warmth of the SU Pool. We will have staff on hand to assist with learning to roll, wet exits and rescues. Play boaters welcome.

We will park and play and the Springfield Whitewater Park. Practice surfing, rolls in moving water, eddie turns, ferries and braces. Participants must have demonstrated a wet exit from a river or play boat to ORC staff. This can be done during the Intro to Whitewater class or one of the weekly Rec Fit Kayaking sessions.

This course will introduce kayaking equipment and techniques. We will start in river kayaks at Eastwood Lake and focus on strokes, maneuvers and rescues. Then move to the mad river where the class will practice eddy turns, ferries and learn to read the river.

Join us for some fun on the Mad River. We will provide you with some basic instruction on land before guiding you down the river for a relaxing evening in kayaks. This is a great way to unwind and cool off after a long day.

This class will focus on stroke development and refinement. Participants will learn basic strokes and receive feedback on technique as well as have the opportunity to practice more advanced strokes such as bow draw, side slip, and braces.

This is an opportunity for individuals who have significant mobility impairments to receive instruction in kayaking from expert instructors.  You will learn how to compensate for function lost due to your disability, how to adapt the boat and paddle to best suit your needs as you complete the ACA Introduction to Paddling course.
