Selection Criteria
Student Union & Event Services and Campus Recreation Scholarships are awarded to deserving student employees in the Student Union & Event Services and Campus Recreation offices. To apply for the Achievement Awards, The Dorothy Ward Hayes Scholarship, and the Lorna G. Dawes Award, students must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Be in good standing with the university and employed by the offices of the Student Union & Event Services and/or Campus Recreation no later than the first day of winter quarter of the current year
  • Remain employed by the Student Union & Event Services and/or Campus Recreation offices for at least one academic quarter after the receipt of the scholarship (summer or fall)

Eligibility
Students applying for the awards mentioned above will be evaluated on following:

  • A commitment to their job and the Student Union & Event Services and Campus Recreation mission
  • Work above and beyond the call of duty
  • Length of Employment
  • Exceptional leadership or extracurricular involvement that positively enhances the Student Union, Campus Recreation, Wright State University and/or the community
  • Financial need

Application & Selection Process

Step 1: Application
Applicants should submit the following typed materials:

  • Application/Nomination Form
  • Cover Letter
  • Resume
  • Essay detailing contributions to the Student Union and future aspirations (one typed page, no more than 1000 words)
  • Two (2) recommendations (one from student's immediate supervisor)
  • Peer nominations (optional)

Step 2: Candidate Selection
The Scholarship Committee will review all applications/nominations and select finalists to progress to the interview stage.

Step 3: Interview
Finalists are asked a series of standard questions by the Scholarship Selection Committee during a 15-20 minute interview.

Step 4: Selection of Recipients
Award recipients are selected based on a rating of the items below. A scale of 1-5 will be used for each.

  • Selection criteria

  • Resume
  • Cover Letter
  • Recommendations/nominations
  • Presentation of self
  • Interview
