Academic Distinction at Graduation
Wright State recognizes superior undergraduate academic achievement by conferring distinction on students who compile outstanding academic records. One of the following Latin distinctions will be recorded on your transcript if you earn the minimum GPA at Wright State University: For students who initially enroll at Wright State starting Fall 2006 or later, summa cum laude (3.9 and above), magna cum laude (3.7 and above), cum laude (3.5 and above).
For students enrolled at Wright State prior to Fall 2006, summa cum laude (3.8 and above), magna cum laude (3.6 and above), cum laude (3.4 and above). See the Undergraduate Catalog for complete details.
Academic honors are based on meeting the minimum honors GPA requirement for work attempted at Wright State and for all college work attempted as of the end of the term in which the student graduates. In calculating cumulative GPAs for honors, only the first grade earned for a course will be counted. This recalculation of the GPA may result in the loss of honors status at graduation.
While Wright State graduate students are not specifically recognized for academic achievement at commencement, the School of Graduate Studies annually presents an award to the outstanding student in each of the graduate programs at the university. Individuals are selected for the awards by faculty members of programs who forward the names of the recipients to the School of Graduate Studies. The criteria for selecting outstanding students are based on academic achievement, thesis work, or any other criteria the program faculty wishes to establish.
