So you're pregnant . . . Now what?

You've come to the right place.

Discovering that you are pregnant can be an emotional experience. For some women it is a time of distress. For others it is a joyous occasion.

You are not alone! Each year, many students become pregnant before or during the school term. Whether your pregnancy is planned or not, it can be very stressful. You may feel pressured by a boyfriend, family or your friends to take a course of action that you're not sure will meet your needs. Many women have found themselves in similar situations as you.

First: Relax. There are many resources in this web page to help you cope. You don't have to have all the answers today. You have time to think and decide.

Second: Talk to someone you trust and then seek help. Remember, you do not have to deal with this situation alone. Emotional support and resources are available you make decisions.

Third: Get some professional health care assistance. Two types of health care professionals are available to help you. Physicians called "obstetricians" and advanced-practice nurses called "nurse midwives" specialize in women's health to provide health care support to pregnant women in all types of situations.

You may stay at Wright State University if you are pregnant. If you are faced with an unintended pregnancy, you may find it difficult to consider your options rationally. You may feel confused, alone, or trapped. You may be under pressure from your partner, parents or friends to follow a particular course of action, or you may not know what your needs are. There are many people at Wright State with whom you can talk confidentially about your needs.

If you are a Wright State student-athlete, it is essential that you seek neutral counsel before voluntarily giving up your scholarship or withdrawing from team competition. Becoming pregnant may be a especially stressful for you. But, you may be surprised that you can continue to train and compete longer than you think, and that your scholarship may be protected.

This website is designed by students for students. Wright State University senior nursing students and their instructor have put together this website because we found there was no place that Wright State University students could go for help and information. We welcome any others who might benefit as well. Our intent is to provide you with information that can help guide you through the decision-making process and to point you to available resources for free or low-cost care.
