Physical Activities
Some student organizations by virtue of their purpose or member interests, may plan and implement activities that carry a higher-than-average likelihood of injury to participants or spectators. Activities in this category may include club sports, sports car rallies; foot races; canoe, ski, and scuba diving trips; bicycle races, etc.. Independent student organizations are not insured by the University, therefore any organization that conducts physical activities must arrange for insurance for their organization. Contact the Director of Risk Management at 775-3908 for additional information about insuring you organization or events.
All participants in physical activities must sign a waiver release. The release form is available at http://www.wright.edu/studentactivities/studentorgs/orgforms.html.
Planning for any event, regardless of risk, requires a clear idea of:
- what is to be accomplished.
- how the end will be accomplished.
Organizations planning activities with a higher-than-average likelihood of risk are required, prior to the activity, to outline in writing:
- the potential hazards of the activity, if any, and
- how the organization plans to prevent or minimize any injury or harm resulting from the activity.
A copy of the outline must be submitted to the Office of Student Activities no later than two weeks before the event. The outline will be reviewed by the Office of Student Activities. The Office will determine the adequacy of the planning and advise the organization in writing of any action, in addition to that in the outline, that needs to be taken by the organization. Any questions about whether your activity is physical-risk should be directed to the Office of Student Activities.
