Announcements/ Reports:

1.  Congratulations to Collette Hill, who is graduating this quarter,
and to Tiffany O’Sheal, who was elected as the new Vice President.

2.   Lisa has updated the SAA website with officer pictures and job
listings: http://www.wright.edu/studentorgs/saa/jobs.html

3.  Collette, Rachel, Natalie and Garrett reported on the recent trip
to
Indianapolis to tour IUPUI Archives and The Children’s Museum.
IUPUI collects the papers of 4 of the 5 largest philanthropic
organizations in the nation.  Their storage area was impressive—it has
room for 10 years of growth.  The Children’s Museum has three
collecting areas: ethnological artifacts (toys), American artifacts
(again, mainly toys), and natural history.  They have a large
collection’s department.  We wrote and signed thank-you cards to both
institutions.

4.  The Dayton Public Schools National History Day competition will be
March 3 at Stivers School for the Arts.  They will need volunteer
judges that day.  It’s a great experience and it’s also good on
resumes.  Volunteers generally need to be available from about 8 am to
noon.  Those who are interested can contact Bridget Federspiel, chair
of Social Studies at Stivers and a WSU History MA (and James Madison
Fellow) at bfefdersp@dps.k12.oh.us to volunteer.

5.  The MAC Road Trip contest deadline is March 1, 2007.  For details,
go to http://www.midwestarchives.org/2007Spring/roadtrip.htm. The date
of the MAC is May 2-5, 2007.  The cost is $45 for students.  The
conference is also the Spring field trip for the Public History
Program.

6.  The deadline for the Donald Peterson Student Scholarship Award is
February 28, 2007.  This scholarship is to help a student attend the
SAA conference in Chicago, August 29 – September 2, 2007.

7.  There is a free grant-writing workshop in downtown Columbus on
Wednesday, Feb. 28.   Natalie and Collette are going.

8.   The ARMA disaster planning seminar will be at the Nutter Center
on March 27 from 8:15 am to 4:00 pm.  The morning session is Records
Management in the Digital Age.  The afternoon session is Preparing a
Functional Disaster Plan.  See the attached flyer for more information
and the registration form.  The registration deadline of February 28
has been extended.  Register as soon as possible if you are
interested.  There are eight free spots for WSU students.

9.  The MVAR Roundtable is March 13 at the Dayton Metro Library from
10 am -12 pm.  All are welcome.  Bring money for lunch.

10.  Phi Alpha Theta will be meeting on Monday, March 5 at 5:15 in the
atrium on the 1st floor of Millett Hall.

New Ideas:

1.  Natalie and Collette proposed the creation of an informal alumni
email directory.  The names, positions, institutions and email
addresses of WSU alumni could be posted on the Public History website
for graduate students to email with questions.  The list would include
professionals in both archives and museums.  Natalie will contact Dr.
McLellan about how to implement this soon.

2.  Natalie proposed having a Volunteer Day at the Clark County
Historical Society on an upcoming Saturday to help them organize
collections.  Tiffany said she would email the Air Force Museum about
the same.
