11/1/2008 With the changing of the leaves comes the end of Fall and with it the wrapping up of the Fall rugby season. This season has seen both Men's and Women's sides live up to the potential displayed last Spring. Both teams finished second in their respective divisions, securing spots in the playoffs. The Men's return to the post season ends a 3 three year drought dating back to 2005. Coincidentally, their first round opponent that year was Ohio Northern University, the same team they draw this year. The Men look to avenge their Alumni's playoff loss and put Wright State Men's rugby in the state title game for the first time in club history. On the Women's side of the pitch, this playoff appearance marks the first time the women's side has advanced to the post season. Their first round match up pits them against an experienced and well coached Oberlin team that will more than likely be their most fundamentally sound opponent to date.
4/28/2008 Spring Season 2008 While the snow on the ground may make it hard to believe,
the season of spring is upon us. If you're reading this then the chances
are that means the same thing to you as it does to the members of the WSU
RFC: Its Rugby season again! Both the guys and girls team are back at it
again conditioning and doing what it takes to get ready to be successful on
the pitch and hopefully bring home some hardware during this warm tournament
filled season. The fall season saw the Men and Women's sides have different
levels of success. The Women's team were surprisingly competitive posting a
4-2 record and missed the post season via tie breaker. While 4-2 may not
seem overly impressive, it is when you take into account they started 7 or
more rookie players every game. The Men's side limped home with a 1-5
record. Despite the record the all games were close and most games were
lost due to inexperience as, like the Women's team, the majority of the
roster was composed of first or second season rookies. With so many
returning players and the addition of several more energetic young players
the Spring season should prove to be a successful and entertaining one.
