Note: all classes meet in 330 Nutter Center on Wright State University's main campus.
The WSU Karate Club meets a few times a week to work on techniques and katas learned in class. These meetings are informal, and everyone is welcome. This is a great time to get to know some of the people that you train with. Training time details are always available on the main WSU Karate page.
You can enroll in these classes through ROX. Search the HPR listings on ROX to find the current section and call number. Beginning Karate is HPR 100. Intermediate Karate is HPR 101.

Beginning Karate is designed for students who have never trained in Shorin-Ryu before. Students are taught the basic techniques, six basic combinations, terminology, and the first kata. Even if you have trained in another martial arts style, this is a good place to start. After a quarter in Beginning Karate, students may promote to 8th kyu (white belt, two stripes).
Intermediate Karate includes students of all levels. It is possible to promote through black belt ranks in this class. Students are taught advanced basic combinations, the kata appropriate for their rank, martial applications. Focus is on improving technique and movement.
Students of all levels are welcome to participate in Karate Sparring. No previous martial arts experience is expected or required. Sensei McCormick teaches kicking techniques, such as front kick, roundhouse kick, axe kick, and side kick, and hand techniques such as jab and punch, as well as blocking techniques. Instruction and feedback on sparring technique is emphasized.
