What Does It Mean To Be "Greek"?
Members of fraternities call themselves "Greeks." This term probably comes from the fraternity names that are combinations of letter from the Greek alphabet. Being Greek means belonging to a brotherhood that enhances academic life and offers opportunities to develop leadership skills, organize community service projects, and make many new friends.

What Does The Greek System Offer?
Adjusting from high school or another college to Wright State University is exciting yet challenging. The Greek system will help personalize your son's college experience. WSU's Greek system offers scholastic assistance, hands-on leadership experience, the chance to help the community with service projects, and the lasting bond of brotherhood. More than 400 fraternity members on Wright State University's campus are obtaining a well-rounded college education. As a parent, you encourage your son to achieve maximum growth. Beta Theta Pi can assist you in this goal.

What Benefits Does The Greek System Offer?
Many people have the incorrect impression that a fraternity is just a social club. Greek organizations offer its members much more than an opportunity to make new friends.

Academic Advantages:
One of the most important aspects of fraternity participation is its focus on academic excellence. High academic achievement is promoted and recognized within Beta Theta Pi and the Greek community. Every year, members of the Greek community recognize individuals with outstanding scholastic achievement at Greek Awards Night. Awards are given for the highest member grade point average and the highest chapter grade point average.

Greek members who excel in academics and leadership are selected for membership in the Order of Omega, an honorary organization for Greek men and women. Among the events and activities sponsored by this group is the annual Greek Leadership Conference. This conference, held in the summer, is for new Greek members with outstanding leadership potential.

All new Beta Theta Pi members must meet a minimum grade point average requirement of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. New fraternity members participate in numerous educational programs that promote academic success. Active fraternity members are paired as "study buddies" and observe designated study hours.

Beta Theta Pi members also participate in numerous educational seminars that offer insight into social issues that extend beyond the classroom. Date rape, alcoholism, and multicultural diversity are a few of the topics addressed in special seminars.

Leadership Advantages:
Beta Theta Pi offers extraordinary opportunities for leadership development. The organizations strengthen the abilities of teamwork, delegation, public speaking, organization, time management, and motivation. By becoming a member in Beta Theta Pi, your son will participate in experiences that not only prepare him for a career, but for life.

Beta Theta Pi men are active in many aspects of University life. Their leadership can be seen on campus through their involvement in residence hall groups, campus groups, and professional organizations.

Community Involvement
Beta Theta Pi shows its commitment to the Dayton community through participation in numerous events. Through our involvement in fund-raising, participating in our national philanthropy, Children's Burn Awareness, and volunteering our time to the local community, Beta Theta Pi members have contributed far beyond our chapter.

How Does A Student Become Greek?
Every Fall and Spring quarter, students can learn about Beta Theta Pi during our Recruitment Weeks. We hold open houses throughout the week so that interested students can meet with current members and alumni to learn more about Beta. We also hold more elaborate social events to provide active members and prospective members with more time to get to know each other. Recruitment is a process of mutual selection in which fraternity members select individuals who they think will be assets to their organizations and prospective members discover which chapters offer opportunities that will help them meet their goals.
