Nenene Sumeregawa, an author, is attacked suddenly during a visit to Hong Kong to promote the release of a movie based on her novel. Anita King, Maggie Mui, and Michelle Cheung, known as the "Paper Sisters Detective Agency", are called in to act as her bodyguards. Their services prove so valuable that Nenene assigns them to another task: find Yomiko Readman, who has gone missing.
