WELCOME WEEK SPEAKER: BERTICE BERRY
Thursday, September 11th, 2008
5:00pm
Student Union Apollo Room

Sociologist, educator, comedian, and best-selling author of Redemption Song will join the WSU community as a Presidential Lecture Series speaker.
GROWING UP POOR, Dr. Bertrice Berry was told she was "not college material"...and disproved it by graduating magna cum laude, then earning a Ph.D. at age 26! She came to find her voice as an award-winning entertainer, lecturer, and bestselling author of Redemption Song, Jim & Louella's Homemade Heart-Fix Remedy, and When Love Calls, You Better Answer. She has graciously donated all of the royalties from her book sales to organizations that help families in transition, raise funds for scholarships, and help low-income families. "When you walk with purpose," Dr. Berry says, "you collide with destiny!"
No tickets are required for this event.

WOMEN’S CENTER OPEN HOUSE
Wednesday, September 10th
9:00 am -- 5:00 pm
148 Millett
Come join us at the Women's Center September 10th for our annual open house! Meet new people, peers, faculty and administration that can assist you in your journey at Wright State University. In addition to food and information, we will be kicking off our year long community art project celebrating and claiming Free/Responsible Speech: Woman folk. This will be a collaboration of your voices- tell us, draw us, write us, your story and at the end of the year we will quilt our voices together to display in the Women's Center. Quilting is a traditional, ritual, folk art that tells a story, can serve as a political statement of resistance, and carries with it a rich history of sentimentality, symbols, and a language of all its own. Lets' make the Woman's voice stronger together. We hope to see you there!
