HIRING TUTORS FOR WINTER QUARTER
In preparation for Winter Quarter, The Tutoring Center will be conducting two tutor training sessions during finals week. They will be held Wednesday, Nov 15, at 10:00 am in 156 Rike and Thursday Nov 16 at 1:00 pm in 204 Fawcett. Tutoring is a great on-campus position that allows you to set your own hours, reinforce your own skills while helping other students, and making money. - $6.30/hr to start.
If you have not held a student employment position before, you will need to bring identification to the training session. You only need one document from list A. If you do not have that, you will need one from B AND one from C.

Becoming a Tutor
Summary of Position
Work individually or in small groups modeling appropriate study behavior and assisting students in areas of difficulty.
Requirements
Completed at least one full at Wright State University
Minimum of 2.8 GPA
Received a grade of A or B in courses to be tutored
Ability to communicate effectively
Duties and Responsibilities
Prepare for tutoring session (e.g., read chapter, prepare quiz, etc.)
Meet punctually and regularly
Be supportive, empathic, and encouraging
Respect confidentiality of sessions
Support instructor
Confront motivation, laziness, and attitude problems
Maintain professional academic thrust of session
Involve tutee in central role in tutoring activity
Help with study habits (e.g., note taking, time planning)
Help clarify new information
Praise the student where possible and work to build a positive self image
Build as much success for the tutee as possible at each meeting
Demonstrate problem-solving skills
Help tutee approach the reading of the text
Up to 20 hours/week (30 hours/week with 3.0 GPA)

Do it all this December over this 12 day adventure! This trip includes 2 full days of rock climbing and rappelling in Red Rocks National Conservation Area, 3 days of canoeing on the Colorado River through the Black Canyon, hiking to hot springs, natural rock saunas, and up mountain peaks. This is the perfect way to warm up your winter and see the country. We will travel by van with stops in Albuquerque, NM and Flagstaff, AZ. Most nights will be spent camped out under the desert stars, but we will spend one night at the Stratosphere Hotel exploring the Las Vegas strip.

TAASC VOLUNTEER SKI INSTRUCTOR TRAINING

Saturday, November 4, 10am-12pm
Get out on the ski slopes this winter and make a positive impact in someone's life. Learn about disability awareness and the seven disciplines for individuals wishing to learn to snow ski or snowboard. Volunteer responsibilities and commitments will also be taught. This classroom clinic provides an opportunity for individuals to attend an "on hill" training on Dec. 16 or Jan. 4. Volunteers will receive free ski passes on volunteer days. Volunteers will be partnered with an experienced lead volunteer partner and one participant on volunteer days. Volunteers ski with a disabled skier and experienced volunteer for 2.5 hours and have the remainder of the day to ski on their own.
Cost: Free
Cost Includes: Equipment, instruction, and transportation
Exertion Level: Moderate
