WSU EMERGENCY FOOD PANTRY
An emergency food pantry is being established on the campus of WSU and will open in January 2011. In times of economic instability, students may become financially stressed and lack access to basic resources. WSU’s student food pantry aims to provide emergency support to these students.
WSU’s Student Food Pantry will need Intake Volunteers to assist the pantry by greeting clients, filling out forms, and guiding clients through the pantry process.
Who Should Volunteer?
Any member of the WSU community with an interest in serving students in need can become an Intake Volunteer for the Student Food Pantry. Volunteers must exhibit sensitivity toward students in need and must be able to commit to serving for at least two hours per month for at least one academic quarter.
How Can I Volunteer?
If you are interested in volunteering, email Rebecca Fensler at rebecca.fensler@wright.edu
Starting in January 2011, the pantry will be open Monday mornings from 10:00am-12:00pm and Thursday evenings from 4:00-6:00pm. In your email, please indicate which of these days and times you are available.
An orientation is required for all Intake Volunteers. An orientation is scheduled for January 17th, 2011 from 10:00-12:00.
Can’t Volunteer but Still Want to Help?
If you, or your organization, are not able to volunteer but would like to make a donation, you can do so by bringing funds or food items to the Office of Service Learning in 128 Millett Hall. We especially need the following:
Pasta
Pasta sauce
Canned tuna/chicken
Peanut butter
Soups/chili
Granola bars
Fruit cups
We welcome other food donations, as well as toiletry items and items like baby wipes, formula, and diapers.
