Wright State University is celebrating its 40 year anniversary this year and Parents’ Weekend 2007 commemorates this special event with family-oriented activities lined up for the entire weekend.

NBC Today Show feature correspondent, Mike Leonard, kicks off the weekend.  He will be sharing amusing stories from his cross-country road trip with three generations of his family based on his book, The Ride of Our Lives: Roadside Lessons of an American Family at 7:30 p.m. in the Apollo Room on Friday, February 9. The Parents’ Dessert Social and Book Signing from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. in the Skylight Lobby will wrap up the evening.  Students are welcome to attend.

Saturday, February 7 is filled with exciting events for WSU families starting with the Complimentary Continental Breakfast from 9:30 to 10 a.m. in the Millett Hall Lobby.  Afterwards, families will have the opportunity to meet other parents and university staff during the Parents’ Fireside Chat from 10 a.m. to noon. Everyone attending the WSU Raider’s Basketball vs. Butler at 7 p.m. in the Nutter Center will literally have a ball and this is a “must-see” event.  Two complimentary tickets will be offered at the Nutter Center Box Office to any student carrying  a valid Wright1 student ID.  Monte Carlo Night from 9 to 11 p.m. in the McLin Gym 3&4 at the Nutter Center promises a fun-filled and exciting evening for everyone.

The Parents’ Weekend will not be the same without the annual Breakfast with the President event which offers an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet at 10 a.m. on Sunday, February 11 in the Berry Room at the Nutter Center.  New WSU president, Dr. Hopkins, and his wife, Angelia, host this event.

CA POSITIONS AVAILABLE

The Office of Residence Services is currently seeking applicants for our 2007-2008 Community Advisor (CA) positions.  The Priority Deadline for submitting an application is January 22, 2007.

All applicants for the position are encouraged to attend one of our four information sessions (see ORS website for dates and times).  The information sessions are designed to provide candidates with an overview of the position and allow candidates an opportunity to ask questions and engage in dialogue with current Residence Life staff.  Applications are available on-line via the Residence Services web page (http://www.wright.edu/housing).

We will be looking for individuals who reflect the diversity of our residential communities and who have a strong desire to make a positive difference to others.  Individuals who possess a caring, upbeat, energetic attitude, as well as a willingness to learn and grow make ideal CAs.  It is important that our CAs possess strong leadership skills, understand the need for policy enforcement, have an appreciation for all aspects of diversity, and utilize well developed communication and leadership skills.

The Community Advisor position is one of the best jobs available for students and provides a multitude of non-monetary benefits in addition to the financial compensation package.  Being a CA requires a significant time commitment in order to be successful, but the rewards derived from the experience make it a very valuable position.  The CA position is not just a student job; it is a life experience that can be very enjoyable, providing lifelong friendships and leadership skills that will enhance future employment opportunities!

If you have any questions about the position, please join us at one of the four information sessions.  The CA position is a great opportunity for you to enhance your leadership skills while making positive contributions to the campus residential communities.
