Announcements (for the week of Feb. 8-14th)


SOBC FUNDING INFORMATION

There will be two (2) informative meetings held for student organizations wanting funding from SOBC for the 2009-2010 academic year. These meetings will be:

Wednesday February 18, 2009 from 4:00pm-5:00pm in 135 Allyn Hall

Thursday February 19, 2009 from 5:00pm to 6:00pm in 135 Allyn Hall

A representative from each group requesting funding must be present at one (1) of these meetings. Only student organizations present at either meeting will be considered for SOBC funding. Library Workshops: RefWorks

Learn to use RefWorks to easily organize references, create bibliographies/footnotes, and create a personal database of resources. Open to all WSU students, faculty, and staff.

Golden Key International Honour Society’s annual Ronald McDonald House Penny Drive

Golden Key International Honour Society is sponsoring our annual Ronald McDonald House Penny Drive from January 30- May 29. All the participating offices around campus are going to be competing to raise the most money to win a pizza party with Ronald McDonald himself. Also, any office that would like to decorate their own penny drive container is able to win a dessert party. The winners will be announced on Monday, June 6th. WRIGHT STATE UNIVERSITY “ORIENTATION LEADER” 2009 JOB DESCRIPTION AND APPLICATION

*"ORIENTATION LEADERS"* will mentor groups of first year students  through the 2009 Orientation program scheduled the summer prior to classes, May – September 2009.  The selection to be a member of WSU’s Orientation Leader team is an honor as-well-as a rewarding opportunity for professional and personal growth.  Each year, the Office of Enrollment Management selects a group of mature and dedicated undergraduate/graduate student leaders to assist with implementing Orientation programs.  Orientation Leaders serve as peer educators, group facilitators, performers, resource contacts and role models to incoming and transfer students; also assisting their families making a smooth transition to WSU both academically and socially.  As an Orientation Leader, you are responsible for reading and understanding the Orientation Leader job description and agree to abide by all terms specified.

 
*Qualifications for All Orientation Leaders:
-Completed at least two quarters at Wright State University by the end of the Winter 2009 term;
-Minimum CUM GPA of 2.5,
-Be in good academic, judicial and fiscal standing during the summer and fall quarters of employment;
-Be enrolled in fall quarter classes at WSU;
-Be able to fulfill the job responsibilities and participate in the mandatory training program.
-Possess strong communication skills, both verbal and written;
-Demonstrate solid decision-making and problem solving skills;
-Able to work independently or in a team environment with minimal supervision;
-Work effectively with a diverse group while promoting the benefits of diversity;
-Possess knowledge of WSU’s electronic mail system, Wings and Wings Express;
-Able to facilitate group discussions on a variety of levels and be comfortable with diversity initiatives.

*Job Responsibilities:  Mentor a small group of new, first year and transfer students in making a successful adjustment to college life by welcoming and guiding them through Orientation activities.

1. Exhibit commitment to the office of Enrollment Management and Orientation Programs.

2. Enthusiastically participate in all orientation leader training.

3. Demonstrate a desire to learn about WSU, its regulations, its people and its programs while sharing the information with others.

4.     Facilitate activities during Orientation including but not limited to: leading discussion groups about diversity, campus involvement and academic success; presenting Orientation materials efficiently and effectively; actively engaging student groups in Educational Programming, including Academic Day.

5. Participate in program assessment via Orientation group meetings.

6.     Serve as host/hostess at all Orientation sessions.

7.     Possess the following role model qualities:  maturity, integrity, flexibility, responsibility and dependability.

8.     Staff all aspects of the check-in/check-out areas, inside and outside WSU facilities.

9.     Serve as a general information and referral source for new/transfer students and their families.

10.  Exhibit good leadership potential and interpersonal skills.

11.  Be eager to improve leadership and teamwork skills.

12.  Interact with students and parents at meals also leading groups of individuals through morning and afternoon programming.

13.  Assist with assembly of student and parent materials as-well-as the administration of placement tests.

14.  Participate in duties, assigned by the Orientation Director or Student Supervisor.

 *Compensation: Students will be paid $7.65 per hour.

*Applications: Available in 210A Medical Science beginning January 19, 2009. Applicants must return a *completed application* along with 2 letters of recommendation to 210 Medical Science *no later than 5:00pm February 9, 2009.

What: The Vineyard Church Food Drive for families in the community

Where: Low Income Housing in Dayton/Beavercreek

When: Feb.26th (Delivering to Recipients)

All donations will be used for the sole purpose of feeding the unfortunate families in the Dayton/Beavercreek area.
