Wilbur and Orville Wright Leadership Academy

Did you have significant leadership experiences in high school or the work world prior to coming to college? Would you like to develop your leadership potential at Wright State University? Then join the Wilbur and Orville Wright Leadership Academy’s Living –Learning Community for first-year students! You will connect with other leaders and be given the opportunity to explore leadership topics and gain valuable insight needed to be successful in future campus leadership roles. The leadership living-learning community is a full year commitment and will involve participation in a variety of interactive group service projects, workshops and presentations. Ask your academic advisor during Orientation how to get involved!

 

 

Community Requirements


Coursework:
Enroll in EDL 411 Emerging Leaders during the Fall quarter. (3 credits)

Residential Living:
Participants will live together on the second floor of Cedar Hall in the Woods Residential Community. Students with physical disabilities who are interested in the community will be accommodated on the second floor of Cedar Hall. Participants in the Leadership Living-Learning Community are also welcome to make specific roommate requests even if the preferred roommate decides not to participate in the Leadership Living-Learning Community.

Academic Success:
The community supports academic success of all participants. Special programs will be held to create awareness for academic support. All participants must maintain good academic standing at the University to reside on this floor and continue participation in the Leadership Living Learning Community.

Residential Floor Programs:
Your Resident Assistant (RA) will develop a series of social, educational and cultural programs designed especially for future leaders.

Community Service:
The Leadership Living-Learning Community participants will serve as the core program planners for Raiderthon. Raiderthon is a day long social event including dancing, fitness, interactive games and much more. Proceeds that are raised during Raiderthon benefits. Partners for Community Living and Toward Independence Inc.

• Boogie on the Bricks
• Welcome Week
• Fall Fest
• Homecoming
• Tunnel of Oppression
• Presidential Lectures
• Dialogue on Race
• Leader 2 Leader Conference
• Leadership Recognition Reception
• May Daze

Recognition:
Participants who successfully complete the requirements of the Leadership Learning Community will be:
• Recognized at the annual WSU Leadership Recognition Reception
• Eligible for the WSU Emerging Leader Award
• Eligible for the Residence Services annual scholarship
• Eligible to attend the summer Wilbur and Orville Wright Leadership Academy’s Take Flight retreat
• Eligible to take the Established and Advanced Leadership courses
