Dr. Heather Wilder, a clinical assistant professor, is a graduate of the School of Psychology at Florida Institute of Technology. She specializes in LGBT issues and multicultural identity development. She also has significant research and clinical interest in trauma, sex therapy and hypnosis. In addition to her work as a professor, she currently engages in private practice as a therapist, assessor, and supervisor through University Psychological Services Association (UPSA).
She previously worked as Associate Director of the PATH program of Wright State University which provided treatment to victims and perpetrators of intimate partner violence. Dr. Wilder served as Associate Director and founding member of the Program for Traumatological Studies and Treatment at Florida Institute of Technology which was designed to provide EMDR treatment to victims of sexual assault. Her prior professional experience also includes the following: forensic assessment, college counseling, community mental health, marriage and sex therapy, 28-day inpatient alcohol and drug treatment, child advocacy center, hypnosis, EMDR, group therapy with non-offending caretakers for sexually abused children and children who have witnessed or experienced domestic violence. She also developed and co-facilitated a LGBT therapy/support group at Wright State University’s Counseling and Wellness Center. Dr. Wilder has presented on a variety of LGBT related topics that has included interaction with the health care system, LGBT and religion, Sexual Orientation diversity in clinical practice, Gender Identity, and Social control of Sexuality. |
