Biographical Information
Dr. Dobbins is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh where he was honored as a Provost's Fellow. He is a member of the Charter Faculty of the School of Professional Psychology who holds the rank of Professor. Beyond his faculty responsibilities as a teacher, Dr. Dobbins serves as the Director of Postdoctoral Training for the School of Professional Psychology . His professional experience includes research and scholarship in the areas of family psychology, racism, training and development in professional psychology, and health attitudes and beliefs. His consultation and practice experience include the areas of stress management, multicultural issues, child, adult, and family therapy. He is a life member and charter president of the Dayton Chapter of the Association of Black Psychologists. In this organization, Dr. Dobbins also served as the Midwestern Regional Director, chaired the National Convention Committee for four years, and was Historian for one year. As a member of the American Psychological Association, he contributes to the efforts of Divisions 45 and 43. He has also been active with the National Council of Schools of Professional Psychology where he coordinated a national self-study among member schools that stands as one of the references of accreditation in professional training. In this organization, he also provided leadership as the Chair of the Evaluation/ Research Committee, and as a member of the Executive Committee which included his tenure as chair of the Ethnic Racial Diversity Committee. Dr. Dobbins is an active member of the American Orthopsychiatric Association. Via this affiliation he served as Chair of the Racism Study Group for five years and was elected to the Board of Directors for a three-year term. His most recent contribution was the direction of a national conference on ÒRace Related Police ViolenceÓ that was held at the Fordham University . He also provided service to the American Board of Family Psychology as its secretary for three years, and to APPIC as a member of the Postdoctoral Program Review Committee for three years. He served two terms as an Ohio Commissioner for Minority Health via an appointment by Governor Richard Celeste. His most active and sustained contribution for the past fourteen years has been to direct the clinical services of the Male Responsibility Program, which is a family intervention program that has helped over five hundred families in the Miami Valley Region since its inception.
