| Description | A 40-hour inservice training program on violence prevention for professionals who serve children or adolescents at risk for violent behavior or victimization. |
| Purpose | To prepare participants to establish and carry out their own child or adolescent violence prevention programs in schools or other agencies within *Montgomery County, Ohio. |
| Target Population | School counselors; school psychologists; teachers; prevention specialists; juvenile court or corrections personnel; professionals in health or mental health centers, social service agencies, or recreational organizations; youth ministers; police officers; or others who work with children or adolescents. Participants must be approved by the program sponsor, the Montgomery Alcohol, Drug Addiction, and Mental Health Services (ADAMHS) Board, and must agree to complete a pilot project within one year of their inservice training. |
| Training Focus | The inservice training program familiarizes participants with the methods and materials used in the PACT program, a violence prevention program which trains children and adolescents in prosocial and anger management skills and violence risk reduction education. |
| Training Method | Professionals are trained in groups of 10 to 12 during a one-week institute. Trainess have opportunities for individual practice with the program materials and field experiences in a demonstration youth violence prevention program. Technical assistance is provided during the required pilot project. |
