3.00 REGISTRATION
STUDENTS MUST BE ADMITTED TO THE SCHOOL OF GRADUATE STUDIES IN
ORDER TO REGISTER FOR AND EARN GRADUATE CREDIT.
3.10 Procedure for Initial Registration
3.11 New students receive by mail from the School of Graduate
Studies registration and academic advising information.
3.12 Students should register by the period indicated in the Quarterly Class
Schedule. For students who register during the early registration period, fee
statements and confirmation of registration will be mailed to the students. Fees
must be paid on or before the date scheduled. Fee payments may be paid on WINGS Express or mailed to or paid at the Bursar's Office
.
3.13 Students who register during early registration and fail to pay fees by
the deadline date will have their registration canceled in order to make their
class seats available to other students. Students who have had their registration
canceled may re-register any time through open registration.
3.14 Students cannot register after first week of the quarter without instructor
permission.
3.20 Procedure for Subsequent Registration
3.21 Students who have registered during the academic year can
receive registration information for subsequent quarters on WINGS Express.
3.22 Students who have not completed at least one course in four consecutive
quarters are considered to be in inactive status and, therefore, must reapply
for admission. The term "course" includes formal courses, independent
study, thesis research, continuing registration, etc.
3.30 Change in Registration
Students can change their registration on WINGS Express or in person
by dropping or adding courses at the Office of the Registrar. Please
refer to the Quarterly Class Schedule for deadline dates, fees, and/or
refunds for dropping courses.
3.40 Course Audit
3.41 Graduate students may audit courses with the approval of
the course instructor. All audits must be clearly indicated on the
registration form. Changes from audit to credit or credit to audit
cannot be made after the first week of the term. The fee per credit
hour for auditing a course is the same as for credit courses.
3.42 Graduate assistants (GTAs, GAs, GRAs) and Graduate Scholars may not include
audited courses as part of the eight hour graduate credit minimum course load.
Tuition remissions are not granted for audited courses.
3.50 Full-Time Status
Graduate students registering for eight (8) or more hours of graduate
credit are considered full-time students.
3.60 Withdrawal from Courses
3.61 Students may drop a course without a grade appearing on their
record or withdraw from a course with a "W" appearing on
their transcript for the course grade up to specific dates each quarter.
Refer to the Quarterly Class Schedule for the time periods that are
applicable to dropping or withdrawing from a class.
3.62 Students who stop attending a course and do not make an official withdrawal
through WINGS Express or the Office of the Registrar will receive a grade of "F" or "X" at
the instructor's discretion. The "X' grade remains on the students' permanent
record and is computed in the grade point average as an "F". Non-attendance
of the courses or notification to an instructor does not constitute official
withdrawal.
3.70 Continuing Registration
3.71 Students' registration each quarter should reflect the level
of academic participation in university life and anticipated progress
toward the degree. This is particularly true of students involved
in thesis, dissertation, and special project research. Academic units
may set minimum registration requirements for continuing and readmitted
students, which represent the unit's supervision of the students'
efforts to complete degree requirements and the expected progress
toward the degree.
3.72 Students must be registered for at least one hour of graduate credit, as
designated by the department, during the quarter in which the successful defense
of a thesis or dissertation is accomplished.
3.73 Students must receive approval from their advisor, department chair and
the Dean, School of Graduate Studies for an exception to the continuing registration
requirement. |
