9.00 PROCEDURE FOR GRADUATION

9.10 Application for Degree

9.11 The University has established the following filing periods for submitting applications for graduation. Applications may be submitted in advance of the earliest date indicated for the anticipated completion date.

Period for Filing Anticipated Completion Date
    June 15 - September 15 November
    September 15 - December 15 March
    December 15 - March 15 June
    March 15 - June 15 August

Students in programs requiring a thesis or dissertation must be registered for at least one hour of graduate credit, as designated by the department, during the quarter in which the successful defense of a thesis or dissertation is accomplished.

9.13 Applications for graduation may be obtained in the School of Graduate Studies Office or downloaded from the SoGS web site. The $35 application fee may be paid by check, Visa, MasterCard, or Discover in the School of Graduate Studies Office or by cash at the Bursar's Office. The completed forms must be returned to the Graduate Studies Office during or prior to the application filing period for the desired graduation date. Applications submitted after the filing date for a desired graduation date will be processed for the graduation date in effect at the time the application was submitted.

9.14 The Graduate School Office submits the application for the degree to the department. The department verifies that the student will have completed all program requirements for the quarter indicated on the application and is ready to graduate.

9.15 If students are unable to complete their degree requirements by the specified deadline, new applications must be filed for graduation the following quarter. The graduation fee is charged only once; it is not charged for reapplication.

9.20 Commencement

9.21 Commencement is held twice annually, in November and June. Students who complete their degree requirements in August and November may participate in the November ceremony. March and June graduates may participate in the June ceremony.

9.22 The University Bookstore will notify graduating students about making arrangements for renting caps and gowns.
