Quick Facts
- Wright State University will change its academic calendar from the quarter system to the semester system, effective Fall 2012.
- This means that Wright State will move from three 10-week quarters, with an additional week for final exams, to two 14-week semesters, with an additional week for final exams.
- This move will align Wright State’s calendar with other 4-year public institutions in the University System of Ohio (USO) and with more than 90% of higher education institutions across the country.
- Such a move will thus make the transfer of students between institutions easier and more efficient.
- The University has pledged to students that the move to a semester calendar will not increase the time to graduation or the cost to students.
- Wright State has been meticulously preparing for this calendar change since May 5, 2008, when the Faculty Senate appointed an Exploratory Committee on the Transition from Quarters to Semesters.
- The “transition from quarters to semesters” plan developed by the Exploratory Committee, having been properly approved, is now being implemented by the University’s Semesters Transition Team (STT).
- Representatives from across the university, including faculty, staff, and students, have served on both the Exploratory Committee and the Semesters Transition Team.
