MarketScore Policy

Wright State University has blocked access to MarketScore, a free Internet usage monitoring program, because of the security threat it poses to personal and University data.

MarketScore has a variety of claims, such as increasing the speed of your Internet connection and protecting against e-mail viruses. MarketScore portrays itself as a research-marketing firm. But, it is "spyware" — once it is downloaded to a computer, all web traffic passes through it. It can read encrypted or secure (SSL) data entered into web forms, including passwords, banking or credit information, and Social Security numbers.

This is a threat not only to those who install the spyware, but also to any user of the machine, and potentially to protected University data, which may be accessed by machines running MarketScore.

If you have MarketScore on your computer, you may not be able to reach campus websites, including WSU systems. If you have MarketScore on your home machine, you may not be able to access Wright State websites.
