From the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs
Winter 1996 Vol. 27, No. 2
The Research Council and RSP are pleased to announce the return of Dr.
Robert A. Lucas to WSU on Friday, April 19. Dr. Lucas, of the
Institute for Scholarly Productivity, San Luis Obispo, California, will
conduct a Proposal Writing Workshop on April 19, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:45
p.m. in room W169 B & C of the Student Union. Author of The
Grants World Inside Out, Dr. Lucas has conducted many workshops
nationally on effective ways of helping faculty become more productive,
more effective and more efficient writers.
Back by popular demand, Dr. Lucas will work with faculty participants
to discuss the elements of a fundable idea, barriers to writing a
successful proposal, and techniques for selecting a sponsor. Since
enrollment is limited to 30, those interested in attending the Workshop
are asked to submit a completed application form (that was included in
a campus-wide mailing) to RSP, 122 Allyn Hall, by 5 p.m., April 5,
1996. In addition, all applicants must have a completed Faculty
Research Interest Profile on file in RSP. Both application form and
Faculty Interest Profile are available from RSP by calling Jan Power at
ext. 2425.
We look forward to bringing the expertise of Dr. Lucas to you and hope
you will take advantage of the opportunity to participate.
If you are:
- a WSU faculty member
AND
- responding to a Request for Proposal from an external agency
AND you:
- propose a minimum capital cost of $250,000
AND
- need matching funds,
you may be eligible to apply to the Ohio Board of Regents' Action Fund
for a share of the match. The Action Fund was designed to encourage
major capital projects and can be used to leverage external research
grants. Action Fund requests must be submitted three weeks PRIOR to
the sponsoring agency's published deadline for receipt of proposals.
This is an excellent means to offset WSU institutional support for
capital projects. For more information regarding the Action Fund,
please contact RSP at ext. 2425.
We have been reminded by the Business and Fiscal Affairs Advisory
Committee of the importance of endorsement of checks received at the
University. Please be sure that all checks sent to RSP that are
reimbursement of expenses originally charged to a grant are stamped
with a departmental endorsement. These stamps may be ordered by
contacting the Bursar. If you have any questions regarding this
procedure, please contact Lori Gabriel at ext. 2425.
Thanks to all of you who so promptly returned your Summer quarter 1995
A-21 Effort Reports to RSP. WSU, as an educational institution, is
governed by the cost principles of the Federal OMB Circular A-21. The
Effort Reports are used to accurately verify faculty and staff time
spent on grant-funded and cost-share accounts, as stipulated by A-21.
If you have any questions regarding the reports, please contact Ellen
Reinsch Friese at ext. 2425.
The awardee for "Accessible Arts Consortium" that was listed
under Student Services in the Fall 1995 Research News was
incorrect. The correct name is Steve Simon.
