Admission Requirements

Applicants to the official degree-seeking MBA program must meet the following admissions criteria:

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.  Your bachelor degree does not have to be in business.
  • An overall undergraduate grade point average (GPA) of 2.7 (based on a 4.0 grading system); or an overall undergraduate GPA of 2.5, but with a 3.0 or better for the last 90 quarter hours (60 semester hours) earned toward your undergraduate degree
  • GMAT examination score.   The average GMAT score is 550.
  • An 1100 point minimum admissions index (College GPA X 200 + GMAT Score)
  • Approval for admission by the Raj Soin College of Business and the Wright State University’s School of Graduate Studies.
International Students – Please go to the University Center for International Education web site to review international student admission requirements, international applications and additional language, VISA and financial requirements.

For students with Master’s degree or prior masters-level course work:

  • The GMAT is not required if you already hold a masters degree from an U.S. accredited college or university.  Please submit all undergraduate and masters degrees transcripts from all previously attended colleges or universities for evaluation.
  • If you have prior graduate course work, but have not completed your master’s degree, you must take the GMAT exam.  You can transfer a  maximum of two graduate courses and have an overall graduate GPA of 3.0 or better and be in good standing (not holding probationary, conditional, or equivalent status) at all previously attended colleges or universities.

The MBA Admissions Committee of the Raj Soin College of Business implements and recommends admission based on a variety of criteria.

  • high, balanced admission index
  • consistently high undergraduate GPA or an upward trend in undergraduate GPA
  • high, balanced GMAT
  • strong graduate GPA
  • strong, balanced TOEFL (for international applicants)
  • strong analytical writing score on the GMAT
  • experience of increasing responsibility, leadership, or variety

The College of Business recommends Regular Admission Status only for those applicants that show high promise for successful completion of the MBA program.

Conditional status, non-degree status and a petition process may be available for students who do not qualify for Regular Admission Status.

Conditional Status - Students are admitted under this status when  (1) They have not yet submitted their GMAT scores.  Up to two MBA courses can be taken prior to submitting your GMAT scores or (2) Their undergraduate grade point average is less than 2.7 but at least 2.5 (based on a 4.0 grading system) or have an undergraduate grade point average of less than 2.5 but above 2.3 if the grades in the last half of undergraduate work constitute 2.7 or better. Admission into this status also requires approval by the College of Business.

Non-degree Status - To be admitted into non-degree status, a student must have a bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree from a regionally accredited college or university. Students applying for non-degree status need only submit an official transcript reflecting the award of a bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree from a regionally accredited college or university. Non-degree applicants having completed graduate work should also submit official transcripts reflecting that work.

Admission by Petition - An applicant who does not meet minimum requirements for admission, who has been dismissed from a program, or who has been denied admission may submit a petition to the School of Graduate Studies for review. The petition form may be obtained from the School of Graduate Studies or view it now. The petition must contain supporting documentation of why any requirement should be waived. Submission of GMAT test scores is required where the applicant has a grade point average below the minimum required for admission. Applicants should contact their graduate program officer for further details. The petition is submitted for review to the College of Business Petitions Committee. The petition with the committee’s recommendation is then reviewed by the dean of the School of Graduate Studies, who will make the decision.
