Peter
W. Bacon, Professor and Chair of the Department of Finance and
Financial Service Pete r announced his retirement
effective June 1, 2004, ending a 35-year career on Wright
State's business faculty. During his tenure he helped
guide the
college through many milestones, including the establishment of
the Financial Services major and AACSB re-accreditation.
Highpoints during his time at Wright State include having his
department earn a program excellence award from the State of
Ohio in 1990, being named Outstanding Faculty Member by the WSU
M.B.A. Association in 1995, and garnering two Outstanding
Teacher Awards from the College of Business, one in 1976 and the
other in 1981. He cites having a WSU team earn finalist status
in the AMEX Personal Financial Planning Competition in 2004 as
the perfect way to cap off his career at Wright State.
With a teaching focus on financial management and personal
financial planning, Bacon has authored numerous journal articles
and presented papers at conferences throughout the country. His
article, “Lump Sum Beats Dollar-Cost Averaging” (1993), which he
co-authored with Richard Williams in 1993, has just been
selected by the Journal of Financial Planning as one of
the best articles of the past twenty-five years and will be
republished in a special anniversary edition. Dr. Bacon has
also served as a consultant for a variety of business firms and
nonprofits such as Bank One, Robbins and Myers, Inc., IDS, City
of Dayton, and City Wide Development Corporation. In addition,
Dr. Bacon served on the Board of Examiners for the International
Board of Standard and Practices of Certified Financial Planners.
