Russell H. Hereth, Associate Professor of
Accountancy retired at the end of Winter Quarter after nearly 29
years at Wright State. Dr. Hereth was hired by Miami University
in 1966, to teach at what was then known as the Wright State
Campus. He was on the faculty when Wright State became a
separate State University. He left in 1968 to teach at the
University of Cincinnati but returned to Wright State in 1978.
He has taught nearly all of the federal income tax courses
offered by the Department of Accountancy.
Dr. Hereth served as the Accountancy Department's representative
to the College of Business Undergraduate Programs Committee
since 1978. He also served as the faculty advisor to the WSU Eta
Psi Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, the national accounting honorary
fraternity. In five of the seven years when he was the advisor,
the Chapter attained superior ratings by the National Office of
Beta Alpha Psi and was awarded scholarship funding by the
National Office. Dr. Hereth co-authored numerous tax articles in
The Journal of Accountancy, The Tax Advisor, Practical Tax
Strategies, the Journal of Financial Planning, The CPA,
Management Accounting and other professional journals.
Dr. Hereth noted that “I tried to make the federal income tax
fun to study and less taxing for my students.” And that is
certainly proven by his numerous teaching awards from student
members of the Accounting Club and the Beta Alpha Psi Chapter.
Dr. Hereth would like to keep in touch with his former students
and colleagues and can be reached at russellhere@msn.com. He
also plans on being active as part of the Retired Faculty at
Wright State University. Most recently the Wright State Board of
Trustees granted the title of Professor Emeritus to Dr. Hereth.
The Russell H. Hereth Scholarship Fund has been established
