Alan Chesen, lecturer in the Department of
Information Systems and Operations Management, received the
University-wide Outstanding Lecturer Award for teaching this
spring. He takes special interest in making sure students are
both motivated to learn and actually learn by applying practical
problems-solving along with theory. Chesen believes that when
students see how quantitative disciplines can realistically be
applied to "real world" situations, and when they see the
importance of such, the material becomes that much more
interesting to them. Chesen is also the advisor for Beta Gamma
Sigma, the international business honorary society. His teaching
techniques will be highlighted in a video at the President’s
Award ceremony this fall.
