The International Trade Minor has been designed exclusively for Wright State University’s business students.

Why Choose a Minor in International Trade?

Business students are generally well-prepared when it comes to analyzing the problems that U.S. companies face in their domestic environment. These problems may include competition among firms, relations with suppliers, or risks related to local production or local trade.

But when it comes to analyzing the problems that companies encounter in their international environment, business students can benefit from additional preparation.

Today many U.S. firms are concerned with their international environment as much as they are with their local environment. Many firms carry out international operations, increasing their opportunities (diversification of their markets, supplies at lower cost) but also increasing their risks (foreign exchange risk, political risk). In addition, many leading U.S. firms are also multinational corporations operating in different foreign markets simultaneously.

Firms are also concerned with their international environment because of the increased opportunities given by the development of free-trade agreements such as the NAFTA between the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.

These major trends in the international environment (Multinational Corporations, Free-Trade Areas) among others, make the development of business students’ skills in international business and international trade a necessity.
