Melvyn D. Goldfinger, 74, of Dayton, died on Friday, Sept. 17. Mel Goldfinger was a champion for academic freedom, shared governance, and the economic security of the faculty – the three bedrock principles of the American Association of University Professors. He was the first grievance and contract administrator for AAUP-WSU.

An indoor-outdoor Celebration of Life is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 3, 3–6 p.m, at the Schlientz & Moore Funeral Home, 1632 Wayne Ave., Dayton, OH 45410. For everyone's safety, the family is requesting attendees of Mel's Celebration of Life be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. In lieu of flowers, please consider honoring Mel by making a donation in his name to the Miami Valley Symphony Orchestra.
