James Edward Brandeberry, PhD., 78, of Enon, passed away on Friday, Sept. 7, 2018, in his home. He was born on October 10, 1939, in Toledo, Ohio, the son of the late Edward and Virginia (Strope) Brandeberry.

Jim graduated from the University of Toledo with a master’s degree in electrical engineering. He furthered his studies at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisc., completing his Doctorate in Electrical Engineering in 1966.

In 1969, Jim began a 36-year career at Wright State University as a professor in the Electrical Engineering Department. In 1986, Jim was appointed as the founding Dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science. He was instrumental in the fundraising and design of the Russ Engineering Center and the Joshi Research Center at Wright State. The Brandeberry Career Development Center, named in his honor, is housed in the Joshi Research Center.

Jim was an active member of the National Society of Professional Engineers for many years. He was a 48-year member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Enon, where he taught Sunday School and served on the Church Council.

In retirement, Jim opened Brandeberry Winery and was affectionately known as the “Lil’ Olde Winemaker.” Jim continued his love for teaching, sharing his knowledge of wine and serving as a mentor to so many. He was an avid gardener and loved spending time with his family.

Jim married the love of his life, Sharon (Niederhauser) Brandeberry, on Sept. 8, 1962, and they spent 56 years together. He also is survived by his three daughters: Susan (Martin) Wright, Kelly Brandeberry, and Tammy (Alan) Flanegin; five grandchildren: Alexander, Andrew, Keegan, Victoria and Connor; one sister, Janis Below, and one brother, Dale (Patricia) Brandeberry, and several nieces and nephews.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday, Sept. 9, 2018, from 3-6 p.m., in the Littleton & Rue Funeral Home, 830 N Limestone St., Springfield. A celebration of his life and career will be held on Monday, at 11 a.m., at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, 7128 Stine Rd., Enon. Burial will follow in the Enon Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the James and Sharon Brandeberry Endowed Scholarship Fund in c/o Wright State University.
