Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is there any free parking at Wright State?

    There are no areas where students, faculty, adjunct faculty, staff, and contractor/service employees may legally park without having purchased a valid permit.

  • Do I need to purchase a parking permit?

    All students, faculty, adjunct faculty, staff, and contractors must purchase a parking permit in order to park a vehicle on campus property. Those persons who have a valid placard displayed or plates to park in an ADA-accessible space may do so if they have purchased a valid permit.

  • Do I need a permit for a motorcycle or rental car?

    Parking permits are required in all parking lots from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday for all motor vehicles, including motorcycles and rental cars.

  • Do I need a parking permit if I am only parking in the late afternoon or evening?

    Please see above. Parking permits are required in all parking lots from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday for all motor vehicles.

  • When can I purchase a permit?

    Although the exact dates may vary, semester-long permits are available one month to two weeks before the beginning of the semester and cease being sold about one month before the end of the semester. Year-long permits are typically available one month to two weeks before the beginning of the academic year, and cease being sold at about the end of the Spring Semester.

    Employee permits no longer expire, and are paid for via Payroll Deduction. Please contact parking@wright.edu if you wish to change the type of parking permit that you have; changes can be made once per academic year. New employees are given a link during their orientation where they can select their choice of permit type.

    Temporary (i.e., weekly) permits may be purchased at any time.

  • If I am a student, an employee, or a contractor/service employee, which permit should I get?

    Students may currently purchase a Single-Semester Permit, a Full Academic Year Permit, or a Full Year Academic “Rowdy” Permit. Further information about student permits can be found on our Employee and Student Parking Permits page.

    Employees who elect to have a parking permit may currently purchase a General Parking Permit or a “Rowdy” Permit. Further information about employee permits can be found on our Employee and Student Parking Permits page.

    Contractor/Service Employees may currently purchase a General Parking Permit or a “Rowdy” Permit in the Public Safety Service Center located in the Public Safety Service Center in 060 Allyn Hall.

    Anyone may purchase a temporary (i.e., weekly) permit; they are priced at $9/week for students and $10/week for other persons. Temporary permits grant access to park in any General Parking space on the Dayton campus. These permits are available in the Public Safety Service Center located at 060 Allyn Hall.

     

  • Are first-year students permitted to park on campus?

    First-Year students are welcome to park at Wright State.

  • Will I receive a physical permit pass?

    No. Wright State uses License Plate Reader technology to verify that you have a valid permit. That said, you need to make sure that the vehicle that you are parking on campus has been linked to your permit. You can find a link to your My Parking Account and instructions on how to do this on our Employee and Student Parking Permits Page.

  • How long is my parking permit valid?

    The Expiration Date of your permit can be found by logging into your My Parking Account and clicking Permits -> View Permits.

  • Can I pay for my permit using cash or my Wright One Card? Can I use a credit card or personal check? Can I add the cost of my parking permit to my tuition bill?

    We do not accept cash or Wright One Cards as forms of payment.

    We accept all forms of credit or debit cards, with the exception of American Express, to purchase a permit. You may also use a personal check or a signed money order; please note that there is a $25 fee if your check is returned to us, plus the full amount of the price of the permit.

    Additionally, until the first day of classes, you may add the cost of your parking permit to your tuition bill. When you are purchasing a permit in your My Parking Account, and you are prompted for the Payment Type, please select Bursar Student Account.

  • I'm a graduate assistant or student teaching fellow. Do I qualify for a Faculty/Staff permit, and may I use Payroll Deduction to purchase it?

    Graduate assistants and student teaching fellows would purchase one of the three types of student parking permits. Students are not currently allowed to use Payroll Deduction as a method of payment.

  • Can I share my permit with another student or faculty/staff member? May I share a permit with my partner, sibling, and/or spouse?

    All Dayton campus faculty, staff, and students, as well as paid contractors, must purchase their own valid parking permit in order to park a vehicle on the Dayton campus. Sharing permits is considered to be fraudulent; violations are subject to fines.

  • I am a residential student, and want to be able to park on campus and in all campus residential housing areas.

    All persons who have a valid permit may park one of their associated vehicles may park in any white- or yellow-lined space in the Residential Areas or the Campus Lots, as long as the space is not restricted or reserved for another purpose. Please note that those who have a “Rowdy” Permit may also park in the “Rowdy” spaces in lots on campus.

  • I see a lot of “Rowdy” spaces available; may I park in one of those spaces?

    Visitors to campus that have either obtained a Visitor’s Permit at the Lot 2 Booth or at the Public Safety Service Center located at 060 Allyn Hall or who have a prominently-displayed PDF permit that was obtained from a Wright State faculty/staff member, may park in “Rowdy” spaces. Students or employees who have a “Rowdy” Permit may also park in the “Rowdy” spaces in lots on campus.

  • Can I park in an ADA-accessible space? Where are the ADA-accessible spaces located on campus?

    You may park in an ADA-accessible space if you have a valid permit in addition to a legally-displayed, state-issued disability license plate or placard permit. ADA-accessible parking spaces are located in visitor Lot 2; Lots 1, 3, and 4; as well as Lots 6 through 18. ADA-accessible parking spaces are also located near the entrances to all of the residential buildings.

  • What do I do if I want to park a different vehicle other than the one that I originally linked to my permit?

    Instructions for logging in to your My Parking Account and for linking vehicles to your permit can be found on our Employee and Student Parking Permits page.  Once you have purchased your own permit, you may have up to three vehicles that are linked to your permit at any one time; however, you may only have one of those vehicles parked on campus at any one time. There is never a fee for changing which three vehicles are linked to your permit.

  • My friend is leaving the university. Can I use his/her permit?

    This is not allowed. Every Dayton campus student, employee, and contractor/service employee must purchase their own permit.

  • I only want the ability to temporarily park at Wright State. How can I do that?

    You can purchase a temporary (i.e., weekly) permit in-person at the Public Safety Service Center located in 060 Allyn Hall; they are priced at $9/week for students and $10/week for other persons. Temporary permits grant access to park in any General Parking space on the Dayton campus.

  • I am a visitor to Wright State, and am not an employee or a student. What are my options for parking at Wright State?

    We welcome visitors to the university. Visitors, alumni, retired professors, etc., may always park in Parking Lot 2, which is adjacent to the Student Union. If you wish to park elsewhere, you may obtain a daily Visitor’s Permit (free of charge) in the booth in Parking Lot 2. If there is no attendant on duty, you may obtain one in the Public Safety Service Center in the Public Safety Service Center located in 060 Allyn Hall. The permit must be prominently displayed on your rear-view mirror before parking. You may then park in any white- or yellow-lined space in the Residential Areas or the Campus Lots, as long as the space is not restricted or reserved for another purpose. However, Visitors may park in “Rowdy” spaces.

  • Where can I park my bicycle?

    Bicycles must be parked in bicycle racks. Bicycles may not be parked in campus buildings (except student residence hall rooms) or locked to trees, light/sign posts, fences, handrails, etc. Please see additional information regarding bicycles in the Wright State Parking Policy page.

  • I am a residential student, and I wish to have a visitor park near my dorm. How can they do this?

    Guests to the Residential Areas are welcome at Wright State.

    Day guests may obtain a Visitor’s Permit (free of charge) in Parking Lot 2, which is adjacent to the Student Union. If there is no attendant on duty, they may obtain one in the Public Safety Service Center located in 060 Allyn Hall. The permit must be prominently displayed on their rear-view mirror before they park on the Dayton campus and/or in the Residential Areas.

    Overnight guests may purchase a temporary (i.e., weekly) permit in-person in the Public Safety Service Center located in 060 Allyn Hall; they are priced at $10/week. At this time, we do not offer overnight permits for a shorter amount of time.

  • If I need to, can I get a refund for my parking permit?

    Prior to the beginning of the semester, semester permits are refunded at 100%; during the first two weeks of the semester, they are refunded at 70%. Refunds will not be granted after the first two weeks of the semester. Annual permits are refunded on a prorated basis.   • How do I pay for a citation that I received?

    The fastest and easiest way to pay for a citation is by clicking Citations -> Pay this Citation after logging into your My Parking Account. You may also mail the citation and a signed check or money order to the following:

  • How do I appeal a citation?

    You may appeal a citation by clicking on Citations in your My Parking Account. Those people who are not affiliated with the University may appeal their citation by creating a Guest Account.

    Click on Citations, and then click on Appeal, which is located to the right of the citation number.

  • I’ve locked my keys in my car, or my battery is dead. Can you help?

    Please call the motorist assistance phone line at 937-775-2111 if you need help with a battery jump or vehicle lockout. Our officers are here to help you. Motorist Assistance is offered 24 hours a day, all through the year, unless inclement weather conditions create unsafe conditions for staff providing the assistance.
