To be considered for campus housing, you must first be admitted to Wright State University.
Apply early!
The earlier you get your application in, the more likely you are to get your housing preference.
Housing applications are processed in the order that both the application and the $150 housing prepayment are received, on a first-come, first-served basis, depending on space availability.
Students who live in Hamilton Hall, The Woods, or the Honors Community are required to purchase a resident meal plan# as well.
Your housing assignment
will be mailed in late July. You'll receive
information about your roommate(s), residential
community and building, telephone number, meal
plan form, student health form, and special requests
postcard (for bed configuration, accommodations
for students with disabilities, etc.).
Housing Tips
We know this is an exciting time
for you, and you're probably already thinking
about what you will bring to make your room seem
like home. Here are some things to remember as
you begin planning and packing.
Be space conscious. Although
our rooms are among the most spacious in the region, you'll want to be cautious
about how many personal belongings you bring.
You will have a wardrobe and a small three-drawer
chest of drawers for your clothes.
Talk with your roommate(s)
about who's bringing stereo equipment, TV, telephone,
and similar items.
Bathroom facilities. First-year
students will be in double rooms in Hamilton Hall
and the Honors Community or double, triple, and quad rooms in The
Woods. The Woods rooms have an attached bathroom
(with shower and toilet) and a sink in the main
living area. Hamilton Hall rooms have community
bathrooms. The Honors Community provides one bathroom
for every two double rooms.
Carpet. Rooms in The Woods
Halls Jacob, Laurel, Cedar, and Boston have wall-to-wall
carpeting. Rooms in Hamilton Hall as well as The
Woods Halls Hawthorn, Hickory, Oak, Maple, and
Pine have tile floors. You can double check with Residence Services to see if your room has carpet once you receive your housing assignment. You may place area rugs or carpet in the rooms, but you may
not install tacked or glued carpet. Keep in mind
that placing carpet in a room that has four sets
of assembled furniture (not to mention personal
belongings) can be a major logistics challenge. Coordinate with your
roommates, so you know who's bringing carpet and
when he/she will arrive. Laying the carpet should
be your FIRST order of business.
Computers and Internet Access.
Each resident is provided a computer connection,
so you can access the campus network and the Internet.
Your computer will need to have an Ethernet card. Residence halls are also wireless
zones, providing students wireless Internet access.
For information on computer requirements and Ethernet
cards, check out our Residence
Connect Web site and the "Frequently
Asked Questions" link.
Furnishings. Each
resident may request the type of furniture configuration
desired for the bed he/she will be using. We recommend
that you don't bring additional furniture items
until after you see what is provided and how it
fits into your room.
The Woods beds can be set
up four ways:
- Low beds (minimum clearance under
the bed) with free-standing wardrobe, desk and
three-drawer chest which will fit beside or under
the desk
- High beds (approximately 27 1/2 inches
above floor), which provides more under-bed
storage space for boxes, containers, etc., with
free-standing wardrobe, desk and three-drawer chest
which will fit beside or under the desk
- Bunk beds, with two wardrobes and
desks free-standing
- Loft beds, with wardrobe, desk underneath
the elevated bed
In Hamilton Hall and the Honors
Community, you can have the beds high or low.
Linens. Don't forget that
you'll need extra long sheets for the beds in
the residence halls. You can find extra long sheets
at many department stores.
Microwave/refrigerator.
All of our residence rooms are equipped with microwave
and refrigerator—less for you to worry about!
Telephones. Each room has
one telephone connection. You will need to bring
your own telephone—check with your roommate(s),
so you don't end up with multiple phones. Each
student will have a telephone account that includes
voicemail and the ability to place long-distance
calls using a personal identification number
(PIN).
Smoke-Free Communities. All campus housing is smoke-free. Smoking will not be permitted in any campus residence hall or campus apartment.
Air conditioning/heating.
Rooms in Hamilton Hall and the Woods have room
air-conditioners, which will work when the outside
temperature is above 70 degrees. Heat is provided
by hot-water baseboard heaters controlled by an
in-room thermostat. The Honors Community rooms
are also air-conditioned.
