Orientation Frequently Asked Questions

What is Orientation?

Orientation can help set the tone for your entire four-year college experience, so we make sure your first WSU experiences are welcoming, fun, and productive.

During Orientation, you will:
  • Be guided through all the business of getting your college career started, like confirming your course selections, and getting your student ID and e-mail accounts
  • Become acquainted with the people and resources that will support your learning both in and out of the classroom
  • Meet professors, residence life staff, and other new students, some of whom will become lifelong friends

Do I have to come to Orientation?

Yes. All new Wright State University students under the age of 23 who have never attended college are required to attend Orientation. If you have earned college credits through the PSEO (Post-Secondary Enrollment Option) Program or have been accepted into the Honors Program, please call University College at (937) 775-5750.

What time of day is Orientation?

8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Is lunch included?

Yes.

Do I Need to Register in Advance?

Yes. You can register and pay online. Register now! You can also call the Orientation hotline at 1-888-WSU-RAIDER (1-888-978-7243) to register by phone.

How much does Orientation cost?

$45 for students, $45 for one parent or guest, and $25 for each additional guest

Why is there a fee?

The fee covers the costs of presentations, lunch, and administrative fees.

Do I need to take math and English placement tests before Orientation?

Yes. Most students will need to take the English and math placement tests, completing them at least ten days before their scheduled Orientation date.

All students must take the online English placement assessment, except for the following:
  • Any student with previous college composition credit with a grade of "C" or higher or posted AP credit for ENG 101 may be advised to enroll into ENG 102.
  • Any student who has accepted an invitation (you must formally accept this invitation) to be in the WSU Honors Program may be able to enroll into an ENG 101-Honors section.
  • The English assessment must be completed online.

The math placement test must be completed in person at a proctored location. Pre-registration is required. All students who have not already passed a college-level math or statistics class with a grade of “D” or higher must take the math placement test.
