8 essentials for e-mail, technology, and computing

1. CAMPUS Account and University Identification Number (UID)

Enclosed in your WSU acceptance information, you received an account name and password for your CAMPUS Account*. This provides access to Wright State e-mail, Internet, personal and class disk space on network file servers, and other computing resources. You can access your Wright State e-mail by going to WINGS (an acronym for Wright Information, News, and Group Services) and entering your CAMPUS Account information. Example: w###abc (Learn more about your CAMPUS Account)

Your UID is a permanent, unique eight-digit number assigned to identify you as a member of the WSU community and is used instead of your Social Security number (helping to protect your identity). You will need your UID and PIN to log in to WINGS Express. By default, your PIN is set to your birth date. If your birth date is July 2, 1989, your initial PIN would be 070289. Also, remember to always type the "U" when entering your UID on WINGS Express. Example: U12345678

2. WINGS and WINGS Express

WINGS is an electronic portal used by the WSU community to access various systems, services, and information from one location. This secure site provides you with a customizable layout enabling you to add content that matters to you. Log in using your CAMPUS Account to access your e-mail, personal calendar, announcements, course software, and WINGS Express.

WINGS Express is a personal, self-service site within WINGS for student services like registration, checking grades, financial aid, and scholarship awards. To access WINGS Express, click the icon on the application bar in the upper right corner of your WINGS session window. Use your UID and PIN to log in to WINGS Express.

3. WINGS Resource Center

Need help or support using WINGS or WINGS Express? View FAQs and short videos on how to register for classes, check your grades, and review your financial aid at the WINGS Resource Center (WRC). Get the information you need quickly!

4. Computing and Telecommunications Services (CaTS)

CaTS provides service and support for:
• Internet access
• Campus networking
• Residence networking
• University telephones
• Computer labs (many open 24 hours)
• Wireless connections for network and printing

For assistance in any of these areas, you can reach CaTS by phone, e-mail, in person, or use their new online chat by visiting the CaTS site and clicking on the chat button. See additional contact information below.

5. Hardware and software

Being a WSU student entitles you to discounts on computers from companies such as Apple, Dell, Gateway, and HP (find out more). CaTS also maintains licensing agreements with several companies that allow for free or low-cost licenses for student use. Visit ConnectWright for more on software applications, anti-virus and anti-spyware software, e-mail programs, and Internet browsers.

6. Laptops2Go

You can check out a wireless laptop computer (both Windows and Macintosh are available) for up to four hours free of charge from the Information Commons area located on the second floor of the Dunbar Library. You must be a registered student to use this service.

7. Groove music download service

You now have a choice for fair, safe, and legal downloadable music. CaTS has negotiated special offerings from several providers to give you a new way to listen to the music you love. See all the options here.

8. Online file storage

Instead of saving files to a disk, you can save your files to your Novell H: drive and have access to them anywhere that has an internet connection. All you have to do is go to myfiles.wright.edu, click the Open Network Files link on the left side, and your files are at your fingertips.
